HTC Will Not Update Tablet Line To Android 4.0

Those of you who picked up an HTC EVO View 4G (Sprint) or HTC Jetstream (AT&T)  tablet over the last few months.  These two, along with the HTC Flyer, will not be seeing an official Android 4.0 update from the manufacturer.  Considering we've not run into more than a couple folks who actually own one of these three we suspect that this doesn't affect too many of you.  Nevertheless, you'll have to go with some rooting and modding if you want to load Ice Cream Sandwich on your device.

Although HTC won't bring Android 4.0 to the trio, it's not to say they won't keep supporting them with updates.  Should you have one of these tablets, you'll find your Honeycomb experience may get better with time.

Upgrades are not the same thing as ongoing support. Devices not being upgraded to Android 4.0 will still get software improvements, security fixes, and technical support as needed.

US HTC Flyer officially discontinued, will the HTC EVO View 4G?

It's official: The US WiFi-only version of the HTC Flyer is no longer being sold by Best Buy, which was the only official retailer of the 7-inch tablet stateside. Since the HTC EVO View 4G is basically just a WiMAX variant of the Flyer - identical to the Flyer in almost every other way - the question remains: what are Sprint's ultimate plans for the EVO View? HTC Evo View 4G and Mytouch 4G Slide, Officially Unlockable From HTC

Two new HTC devices have found themselves a part of the official bootloader unlocked family of devices by way of HTC’s developer site, HTCDev.com. The Evo View 4G (Sprint’s version of the Flyer) along with the T-Mobile MyTouch Slide 4G were the newest additions to the list. The Evo View 4G more specifically, has been making its way around the internet as the center of more than a few “fire sales” offering the device at a deeply discounted price.

If you’re unfamiliar with the term, having an unlocked bootloader means you can generally tinker around a little more with the software of your device, adding things like root access and/or installing custom ROMs. While, HTC provides the unlocking for specific devices, not everything will be covered under warranty, should something go awry. Of course, there are always the unofficial methods of unlocking a device but it’s nice to see HTC putting in the effort.

Honeycomb OTA for the HTC EVO View 4G rolling out

The Android 3.2.1 update for the HTC EVO View 4G is in the midst of a rollout, bringing Honeycomb and a new "virtual and holographic user interface" to the 7-inch HTC tablet.  The official change log reads:

• Physical Hard keys replaced with on screen Soft keys
• New Google search, available on every page
• System Bar: Quick access to notifications, status, and soft navigation buttons available at the bottom of the screen
• Notifications menu moved to the bottom right corner of the screen, on the System Bar.
• The Action Bar—which can be accessed by touching the Plus Sign icon at the top right of the screen—is the key to contextual, changing menus that are controlled by each application.
• Enhanced security including Sprint Data Link and 3LM
• Google video chat
• Fixed a bug that kept Bluetooth from working in airplane mode

The update is rolling out itself, but if you'd like to force a check, On the Home screen, tap Menu and then tap Settings; scroll up and tap System updates; tap HTC software update.  On the Software updates screen, tap Check now and your View will check for updates.
