AT&T And HTC Make Vivid "Ice Cream Sandwich" Update Official

 

We reported last week that the ICS update for the HTC Vivid on AT&T had started to trickle out. Many of you probably chose to initiate the update manually, by dialing *#*#682#*#*. For everyone else, AT&T has made the update official today, highlighting the snazzy new capabilities, including Beats Audio and the many new features of Android 4.0, such has Face Unlock. 

HTC Publishes ICS Kernel Source For Sensation, Vivid, Sensation XE

HTC has released the source Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich kernel for the Vivid, Sensation, and Sensation XE. HTC began rolling the Android 4.0 update to these three devices recently, and the kernel will help developers adjust their apps/services to work better on these phones. The code can be downloaded from HTC's developer web site. As usual, for normal users like you and I the source itself means little. But the magic that developers can make happen with it certainly has some appeal, and we're ready to see what folks can come up with.

A quick heads up to all you folks with the HTC Vivid. Word in our HTC Vivid forums is that the Android 4.0.3 update is starting to push out. And even better is that you're able to force the push by dialing *#*#682#*#*. It looks like it's a slightly newer version that the update that leaked a week or so ago. Vivid users be sure to leave your comments on the new update.
