Byte, Is The New Vine

The Byte app is now available to everyone, both iOS and Android. Byte is a social network based on short video clips, with comment features similar to Instagram, and a "rebyte" feature similar to retweets on Twitter. 

Byte was founded by Dom Hofmann one of the original creators of Vine and is similar to Vine in many ways. (Vine was purchased by Twitter, and shut down 2016.) The Byte app includes a search/explore section that lets you explore content by category, such as animation, pets, fitness, music, comedy, travel, and experimental, as well as latest and most popular content. 

The camera section lets you string together multiple short clips at once, recorded from either the front or back camera, and/or include sections of previously-recorded video. An onion-skinning feature helps you visually align the start of a new clip with the last frame of the last clip.

Facebook Unveils Video Sharing For Instagram

Facebook has announced video sharing for its massively popular photo sharing network, Instagram.

Video sharing through Instagram is similar to other social networks and apps in that videos are limited in time, 15 seconds in this case, and are able to be assembled in clips or chunks. Instagram will set itself apart from its fiercest competition, Vine, with the ability to delete clips and with filters. There are 13 brand new filters developed just for Instagram’s new video sharing. All of Instagram’s new video sharing features are built right into the existing Instagram app, and excluding custom image stabilization, are going to be available on Android from day one.

iOS Facebook Camera App Launches

It appears that Facebook has taken the time to create their own independent photo application not unlike what they’ve worked on for Android  just weeks ago. This application will be rolling out to fans across the earth soon with quite a few features extremely similar to what users of Instagram are already used to using. What you won’t be getting here is shares within the app only and sharing with other social networks all at once, this is purely a Facebook thing.

This application will be working to enhance the Facebook experience with full-screen displays of photos, easy to use interfaces, and in-app photos. Though past versions of Facebook have had inline photo-taking abilities, this version is able also to have you sharing multiple photos at once and is working with your already-taken photos with ease as well. This application also works with a whole new set of aesthetics you’ve perhaps had a glimpse of when the Android version was released.

This version will be popping up on the iTunes app store today and is currently sitting in iTunes Preview for you to gawk at until its launch for your area.

Facebook Acquires Karma

The Social Network is purchasing companies left and right, with the most recent including Instagram and Lightbox. But now they have decided to acquire Karma, a social gifting app.

Simply put, Karma allows users to connect to Facebook via their app and send people gifts. Why would Facebook want this service? Surely, Facebook could further integrate this service to create more revenue from gift sales. Karma states that the app will continue to run as usual, but now with a stronger backbone.

It seems like the Social Network is trying to get its hands anywhere they can, so we would not be surprised to see Facebook purchasing more services soon.

Instagram Now Supports Tegra 3 Devices

Instagram has gotten another update. This time the team is adding support for a whole bunch of new devices which are powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 3, and this includes the new HTC One X. The team had dropped a camera support bugfix on launch day, but the HTC One X was the standout incompatible device. At launch, Instagram didn't support Android tablets, so no other Tegra 3 devices mattered all that much. But, now Instagram supports not only the HTC One X, but all Tegra 3 tablets like the Asus Transformer Prime.

Instagram for Android Surpasses 5 Million Downloads In 6 Days

Just 24 hours after its release, the app had already been downloaded one million times. Now, the popular photo sharing application can chalk up another milestone. As of Tuesday, Instagram for Android has been downloaded a total of 5 million times. That’s 5 million downloads in the six days it has been available.



Facebook to Acquire Instagram 1 billion

Facebook today announced that it has agreed to purchase popular photo-sharing service Instagram for approximately $1 billion in cash and stock. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the company will add Instragram's team to its own, though the service will continue to operate independently from Facebook. Instragram has been available to the Apple iPhone for some time, but only recently became available to Android smartphones. The deal is expected to close later this quarter pending customary closing conditions.
