Motorola Killing Off Webtop

Motorola has confirmed that it will no longer be pursuing its webtop program in the future. Famously announced to much fanfare with the Motorola Atrix, the laptop dock is going away. Starting with its latest release of devices -- the Photon Q, Droid RAZR HD, etc. -- webtop will no longer be preloaded and laptop dock devices will no longer be for sale. In an official statement, Motorola laid out the news:

"Motorola's Webtop app helps users extend their smartphone experience to larger screens. While consumers around the world have adopted Webtop and the concept spurred a lot of innovation in the industry, the adoption has not been strong enough to justify continued resources being allocated to developing Webtop on future devices. We have also seen development of the Android operating system focus on the inclusion of more desktoplike features. Beginning with Photon Q and Droid Razr M/Droid Razr HD/Droid Razr Maxx HD, we will no longer be including Webtop on our products moving forward."

This probably doesn't come as a surprise to many of us who have either completely forgotten that webtop existed or saw with the high prices and anemic sales that the future wasn't bright for the product. Most importantly, this really symbolizes the end of an era for Motorola. Webtop may have been one of the biggest things left that symbolized the Motorola of the past. As if Google and Motorola's statements prior to its latest device launches weren't clear enough, it seems as though we're looking at a "new Motorola" going forward.

Ice Cream Sandwich Leaks For Motorola Droid RAZR/RAZR MAXX

A new Ice Cream Sandwich build for the Motorola Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX has surfaced, and sings point to it being an official release for the Verizon Android duo. The leak bears software version number 6.14.84 and measures in at roughly 343MB, matching the file size listed on a recently exposed Verizon update schedule. Further suggesting that the build may represent a nearly final form of Android 4.0 for the RAZR series is the fact that it requires the most recent 6.12.181 Gingerbread update in order to install. The file should be going public via the folks at DroidRzr by the end of the day.

According to the above mentioned release schedule, the update for the RAZR and RAZR MAXX recently entered testing and is expected to go live towards the end of May.

Motorola DROID RAZR, RAZR MAXX Update Being Pushed By Verizon

It looks like the 6.12.181 upgrade is now making its way out to customers. The 6.12.181 update includes tweaks for improved device stability and enhancements to help extend battery life, among a number of other changes, so this definitely looks like something that RAZR and RAZR MAXX owners will want to check out. If the update has yet to make its way to your neck of the woods and you just can't wait for it any longer, you can check for it manually by heading into Menu > Settings > About phone > System updates.

Motorola Announce The Droid RAZR MAXX

Verizon and Motorola have now taken the covers off some new additions to their DROID lineup and while all of them come to us from Motorola -- they kind of aren't really all that new. 

Starting with the Motorola RAZR, it now comes in purple -- for those of you keeping track at home that means you can now get one in black, white and purple. Next in line is the Droid RAZR Maxx, which according to the press release past the break, is just a Motorola RAZR that happens to last longer then well, a Motorola RAZR:
