Sprint Releases Samsung Galaxy S II Jelly Bean Update

Sprint announced yesterday that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is available to the Samsung Galaxy S II. According to Sprint, the update adds the standard Jelly Bean features, in addition to several of the Galaxy S III's custom functions. Those are Smart Stay (keeps screen lit when eyes are facing forward); Direct Call (converts text message UI to phone UI); and Pop-Up Play (allows users to watch video content when using other apps). The update must be installed via USB cable through either Samsung's Simple Update tool or Samsung's Kies software.

Sprint Said To Be Rolling Out Android 4.0 For The Samsung Epic 4G Touch This Week

Sprint’s version of the Galaxy S II, also known as the Samsung Epic 4G Touch could be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich update starting this week. An image/screenshot sent to Android Central suggests that Sprint and Samsung are in the works for the Android 4.0 update for the smartphone. If this new revelation is anything to go by, the update roll out will go live on July 12 and all the way through next week. .

Leaked T-Mobile Roadmap Outlines New Devices And Updates

Our friends over at TMoNews have unearthed a roadmap with some tasty morsels of info about what's coming down the pipe from T-Mobile USA in the next few months. Of course, none of this is set in stone or even confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt.

Most interesting is a pair of dates for Ice Cream sandwich updates, with Magenta's Galaxy S II slated to receive Android 4.0 on May 14th, followed by the Sensation 4G and Amaze 4G getting ICS (with Sense 3.6, presumably) on June 16th.

A bunch of device launches from Samsung and Huawei round up the list of dates, with no sign of HTC's One X, Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S III, or T-Mobile's rumored Galaxy Note variant. Sadness. Check out the entire bounty below.

Samsung Says Never Mind No Android 4.0 ICS For Galaxy S II

Less than 24 hours after the first siren sound coming from blogs across the mobile bloggersphere that the Galaxy S II would be getting an Android upgrade this week, Samsung has redacted. Not so much saying they’ve had a change of heart as noting that the source of the information – Samsung’s own update schedule – was just a bit mis-informed. 

Samsung Galaxy S II (GT-I9100) To Get ICS On March 10th

The update will come to individual carriers and their own GSII variants eventually, after a hefty amount of testing on their end, but at least this -- combined with HTC's rollout of Sense 3.6 to the Nordic countries today -- means the ICS ball is officially rolling for custom skins. 

White Samsung Epic 4G Touch on the Way

Thanks to the guys at pocketnow.com for tipping us off on this one. Though Sprint was the nation’s first carrier to offer the Samsung Galaxy S II aka Epic 4G Touch. Oddly the Now Network has been more like the Later Network in regards to a receiving Samsung’s flagship in a different color. Thanks to a couple of leaked press shots, it’s pretty much confirmed that Sprint will soon have a white model of the Galaxy S II to call their own. Sprint’s white on white version of the Epic 4G Touch is expected to release early next year. No word if this will be a retailer exclusive like Sprint’s other special edition smartphones.
