Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Now Official, With 10.5 Inch Display

Samsung has officially unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 along with slimmer bezels, audio tuned by AKG including four speakers, and sports a 10.5 inches sAMOLED screen with a resolution of 2560×1600.

Meanwhile, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, and either 64GB or 256GB of built in storage. There is a 13-megapixel camera on the back, and an 8MP camera on the front. Samsung has opted to remove the physical home buttons on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 in lieu of on screen home and navigation buttons, making the iris scanner and facial scanning the go to biometric security and authentication method.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 has the standard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 on board, battery measureing in at 7300mAh with support for Fast Charging. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is running Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. As with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3, Samsung is including the S Pen at no additional cost.

Samsung says that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 has DeX support built right into the software, and the tablet can support having up to 20 different windows open at the same time.



The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 will have an LTE model with support from Verizon, U.S. Cellular, and Sprint. The retail price is $650 for the 64GB model, or $750 for the 256GB variant. Color schemes are glossy black or white. Samsung stated pre orders beginning today, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 will start shipping on August 10.

U.S. Cellular's First LTE Device Isn't a Phone

U.S. Cellular announced the availability of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. It is the first device to be sold by U.S. Cellular that can access its LTE 4G network. The LTE network is active in just a handful of markets so far, including Madison and Milwaukee, Wisc.; Wichita Falls and Lawton, Okla.; Portland, Houlton, Augusta, and Bangor, Me.; Greenville and Elizabeth City, N.C.; and Des Moines, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, and Davenport, Iowa. According to U.S. Cellular, it will light up LTE in cities in Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, New Hampshire, Oregon, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia by the second half of 2012. Despite being nearly a year old, USCC's Tab 10.1 will sell for a staggering $499.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate, though customers residing in one of its LTE markets will be able to grab it for a Benjamin less. Oh, and did we mention that a two-year agreement (with data plan) is still required?

Samsung Evaluating Getting Android 4.0 on the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab

  

The folks at Samsung first denied original Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S users a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich and, as you might imagine, it created quite the uproar. It couldn’t be a hardware performance issue due to the Nexus S getting Ice Cream Sandwich with near identical performance hardware. No, it was a space issue and you can probably guess the biggest culprit – TouchWiz.

Thankfully, there’s still a chance (albeit not a very favorable one) that the devices will still be able to get Ice Cream Sandwich. Samsung heard the complaints from users of their 2010 flagship devices and have gone back to say that they will continue to find solutions for getting Android 4.0 up on these devices.

Debloating or completely eliminating TouchWiz would be ideal for users, of course, but Samsung likely won’t or can’t do that. They have to commit to providing the same experience with 4.0 that they did out of the box.

Of course, they could go the HTC route and allow carriers to defer users to the market for specific TouchWiz apps. Fingers crossed.
