Google Announces ADT-2 Android TV Dongle For Developers

Google has announced the successor to the ADT0-1... You guessed it, it's called the ADT-2 and serves as the latest hardware for Android TV developers allowing for Android TV app development and testing.

The Android TV ADT-2 runs the latest developer preview of Android TV based on Android P, has Google Assistant enabled.

Google Rolls Out New Chromecast Preview Program

According to a new Chromecast support page, Google Chromecast users can now enroll their Chromecast into a “Preview Program” for access to early and unreleased features…

The support page allows Google Chromecast users to join the preview program and will be able to try new features, give feedback directly back to the Chromecast team, and will be emailed every time a new update rolls out to their Google Chromecast streaming device.

According to the Google Chromecast support page you will be able to use the Google Cast app to enroll in the preview program by following the steps below:

• From your Android or iOS device, open the Google Cast app.
• Tap the Devices tab to see your available Chromecast devices.
• Scroll to find the device card for the Chromecast you’d like to enroll in the Preview Program.
• In the top right corner of the device card, tap the device card menu (three squares).
• Tap Device Settings.
• Tap Preview Program.  ***Google stated If you don’t see Preview Program, we aren’t accepting new members at this time. Please continue to check back as opportunities become available***.
• Choose whether to receive email notifications by moving the slider to the right or left.
• If you opt-in to email notifications, you’ll be asked to sign into your Google account.
• Review the contents of that page, and tap Join Program.
• Review the contents of the page, then tap OK, GOT IT. 

Google has also made note, this program is not a beta program and the “intention is that Preview Program updates will be of the same quality as production version updates.”

HBO NOW Adds Chromecast Support

HBO streaming service HBO NOW, the app that allows you to cut ties with your current cable provider received an update this morning to allow for Chromecast support. The update includes performance tweaks along with the ability to send users push notifications. The updated HBO NOW app is live on Google Play to download.

Mysterious Google Device Passes Through FCC

A mysterious Google device appears to have passed through the FCC yesterday. This mysterious product was filed using the FCC ID A4R-GG1, the filing is vague when it comes to specific features of the device. 

Some have the theory this could be the new Chromecast reportedly coming later this year, many of the hints throughout the filling hint to the potential of it being a new version of Google Glass. What's your thoughts? 

AllCast Now Available For iOS Devices

AllCast recently brought its media-sharing app to the iTunes App Store. AllCast lets iOS device owners cast content from their camera roll, Google Drive (Google+, Picasa), or DropBox on their iPhone or iPad to an AppleTV, Chromecast, FireTV, Roku, or Xbox. AllCast also supports music casting, though the files must be stored locally on the iPhone or iPad. AllCast duplicates some of the features of Apple's own AirPlay. 

AllCast is free to download from the iTunes App Store. AllCast is already available to Android devices.

Chromecast SDK Released, Open To Developers

Google has released their long awaited +Chromecast SDK to developers, giving developers the power to build a cast ability into their apps. Until now, select partners have been able to build in Chromecast support, but this now means almost any app Android, iOS, and web could enable a cast button and bring casting abilities from phone/tablet/computer to your big screen.

Google Brings Chromecast App To iOS Devices

Google today published a version of its Chromecast application for Apple's iOS devices, including the iPhone and iPad. The Chromecast app for iOS allows users to set up their Chromecast to work with their Wi-Fi network, as well as manage their Chromecast settings (password, device name, etc.) Chromecast for iOS is free to download from the iTunes App Store and supports most iPhones and all iPads. Chromecast is already available to Android devices. Chromecast is an HDMI dongle that allows people to push online video content to their HDTV.

Google Debuts Chromecast Media Streaming Device

Google today announced a new tool that it hopes will improve the experience of sharing YouTube videos from a smartphone, tablet, or laptop to a television set. Chromecast resembles a USB thumb drive, but plugs into any HDMI port on the back of a TV set. 

Chromecast accesses the internet via Wi-Fi. Android, iOS, and Chrome devices can then see the Cast button, which appears in the YouTube app, and push whatever video they are watching to Chromecast. The Chromecast device will turn the TV set on and automatically switch it to the proper input. The video will then play automatically. Pressing the Cast button again in the app on a smartphone will cease playing the video on the TV and bring it back to the phone. 

The Chromecast offers similar, but much improved, functionality to last year's Nexus Q living room device. The Chromecast works with content that is in the cloud, such as Google Play movies, Pandora music, and other third-party content sources. It does not pass content that is stored on a smartphone's local storage to the TV for viewing. It works with Android, Chrome, and iOS, but not BlackBerry or Windows Phone. Chromecast is available today for $35. It can be purchased from the Google Play Store.
