Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Update Live For Verizon's Galaxy Nexus

Verizon's Galaxy Nexus is lagging behind its purebred brethren in the update department. But the delays are getting shorter and, as the carrier's just confirmed, users should begin to see Android 4.2.2 rolling out to their handsets as early as today.

Initially released back in February, this Jelly Bean update brings with it the ability to snap 360-degree photospheres, various camera UI improvements, lock screen widgets, and a Swype-like Gesture keyboard. It's set to be released gradually, the OTA update notification takes a few days to make itself known.

Google Posts Factory Android 4.2.2 Images For Nexus Devices

With the Android 4.2.2 update finally rolling out for most Nexus devices (minus Sprint / VZW Galaxy Nexus), Google has posted factory images of each on the Nexus Factory Image page. These images are useful for flashing your Nexus device back to stock, whether to get an OTA update, or fix that brick you just caused.

These images are for the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (Wi-Fi and 3G), Nexus 10, and Galaxy Nexus (Yakju / Takju variants). If you want to see what's new in Android 4.2.2, check out our post detailing some of the changes. For a deeper dive, take a look at the developer changelog.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Outed By Google

Play-store
It seems that a possibly careless listing on the part of Google has just outed the next version of Android. It's outed as version 4.1, as Jell... we're going out on a limb here and saying Jelly Bean and more specifically, that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be the first phone to receive it. Wowzers.
So, we've all been assuming for weeks upon weeks that we'd be hearing something about the next iteration of our favorite mobile platform. It isn't the biggest surprise in either name or version number, but it is a little surprising it has been outed in this way.
So, are we going to see some sign of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean next week in San Francisco?

Sprint Releases Galaxy Nexus Connectivity Update

In general, people seem to love their Galaxy Nexuses, but every model has suffered from some form of connectivity problem. The HSPA+ plus model already scored its antidote, now its time for Sprint's LTE model to get some love. Over the next couple of days a software update (FD02) will be rolling out to the ICS flagships that should solve a rather bothersome bug that kept the devices from connecting to Sprint's data network after activation... at all. Obviously, you'll need to connect to a WiFi network to download the update if you're one of the afflicted, but you get a nice Google Wallet update for your troubles.

Software Update In The Works For Reported Sprint Galaxy Nexus 3G Connectivity Issues

Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus
The Sprint Community forums have been receiving complaints of connectivity issues with the recently released Samsung Galaxy Nexus — aside from the fact that no 4G LTE network currently exists for the device to connect to, that is. Users are reporting that the Galaxy Nexus on Sprint is having a hard time acquiring a connection to the carrier’s 3G data services. Some have returned their device to be issued a replacement, but others have been turned away as a software fix is apparently in the works.
A moderator on the forum says that Sprint and Samsung “are trying really hard to get the update released early next week,” but could not commit to an official date.

Sprint's Galaxy Nexus Pre-Order Stock Sold Out Online

Only three days after being announced, pre-orders for Sprint's version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus have already sold out. The current Sprint page for the Nexus says that pre-order inventory is gone, but that more phones will be available on April 22nd, when the phone is released in stores. The Sprint version of the phone seems identical to the Verizon one, with 32GB of internal storage and a 1.2GHz processor; it comes out to $199.99 with a two-year contract.

HTC Granted Face Unlock Patent

One of the features that Ice Cream Sandwich brought to Android and the Galaxy Nexus was Face Unlock. Although not very secure, it did provide a fun, additional method to unlocking the phone. In a curious turn of events, it turns out HTC has been granted the patent behind the technology, which certainly raises some legal questions.

HTC’s patent details “a method for unlocking a locked computing device”, which could be a smartphone or tablet, with biometric information. In this case, that information can include an image of a person’s face, although fingerprints are also covered.

Right now, if Face Unlock fails to work, the user is asked to enter a backup password to gain access to the device. HTC’s patent also describes the same functionality, although they take it one step further: if the user enters the correct password, their face at that moment is saved and added to the “allowed” list. That would work well if the facial unlock failed to recognize you in low light situations, for example. Having said that, it might make it even easier to cheat the system.
If HTC has been granted this patent, what does it mean for Google and Samsung? Right now the feature is found on the Galaxy Nexus, as well as the Galaxy S via the way of Samsung’s Value Pack. If HTC choose to enforce the patent, they could tout Face Unlock as an exclusive feature; or, they could simply sit on the patent for the benefit of Android as a whole, only using it if, say, Apple was to try and implement a similar function.

Sprint Galaxy Nexus Gets The Green Light From FCC

The Samsung SPH-L700. It may sound like a silly combination of letters and numbers, but it just so happens to be the model number for Sprint's version of the Galaxy Nexus -- and it's officially made it through the prying eye of the FCC, still on track for a launch in the first half of 2012. It sports LTE band 25, which is the 1900MHz flavor Sprint has chosen to use when it launches its take on the next-gen network in the near future. The latest variant of the Nexus also keeps in line with the measurements on its Verizon counterpart and offers support for 850 / 1900 CDMA, Bluetooth and NFC.

Sprint Galaxy Nexus Sign-Up Page Now Live

Sprint Galaxy Nexus
The official Google sign-up page for the Sprint Galaxy Nexus is now live, waiting for all Sprint subscribers to register for "more information".  We've known it was coming since Sprint verified the rumors on January 9, and I know plenty of folks who are pretty darn excited at the prospect of an LTE powered Samsung Galaxy Nexus on the Now Network.  And who could blame them?  Ice Cream Sandwich on that gorgeous 720p display is a thing of real beauty, and pairing it with the last chance at unlimited data in the USA is a great idea.
It should be the networks first LTE device, and we know it's coming with 32 GB of storage.  There's also a lot of rumors still going strong about features that may be different in the Sprint version.  Some think there may be a higher CPU speed (don't count on that one) because of an early advertisement that showed it with a 1.5 GHz CPU which may have been a misprint.  Also, because the folks at CES didn't want anyone to capture the back of the device on camera, many think it will have a larger stock battery than either the Verizon version or the GSM world version.  We'll have to wait and see, because at this point nobody has a clue just when we're going to see this one on the shelves.  Sprint's been cryptic, like smart companies always are, saying things like "soon" and "mid-2012".  Anyone who claims to have a date is just guessing for the most part, so we're not going to add to the confusion.

Sprint Confirms Its Galaxy Nexus Will Be The 32GB Variety

If you were worried after getting your first glimpse of the Sprint Galaxy Nexus yesterday that the official specs listed is as packing only 16GB of storage, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Sprint has confirmed to Mobile Burn that its handset will be 32GB, just like the Verizon model. The landing page hasn't been updated yet, but we'd expect it to be very soon.

Sprint Confirms Galaxy Nexus And Outs LG Viper

The speculation is now officially over! Sprint has thrown the switch on their LTE landing page, which confirms that the Galaxy Nexus is coming to Sprint! Everything appears to be the same with Sprint’s variant of the Ice cream Sandwich powered device as its red counterpart, however price and release details still remain a mystery.
In addition to the Galaxy Nexus, Sprint’s new webpage also revealed LG’s first LTE device for the Now Network, the LG Viper. Rocking a 4-inch WVGA display, 5-megapixel camera, and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, the device doesn’t sound too shabby. Sadly the Viper is said to be launching with Gingerbread, but hopefully Android 4.0 is on the way. Check out a screenshot of the Viper below.

Galaxy Nexus To Be Sprint’s First 4G LTE Phone

Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus is one of the hottest Android phones on the market right now and according to a recent report, the smartphone will soon launch on Sprint’s network. An advertisement spotted by Engadget on CNET that likely ran a bit ahead of schedule revealed the device, suggesting that an announcement could be coming at or even just ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show next week. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the first smartphone to feature Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and it also sports a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display and 4G LTE support — Sprint’s advertisement for the phone points out that the device will be the carrier’s first LTE phone. Sprint announced earlier on Thursday that Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio will be its initial LTE markets, with a rollout set to begin in the coming months.

Touch Based ClockworkMod Recovery Now Available

If you’re tired of working those volume and power buttons in on your Galaxy Nexus to death you’ll want to pay attention. UnstableApps – a developer over at RootzWiki  - has introduced a touch-enabled version of Clockwork Mod Recovery for at least the CDMA version of the Galaxy Nexus
You’ll still get that same classic Clockwork interface (which is absolutely overloaded in cyan) but you’ll now get navigation buttons at the bottom of it all. Check out the goods in the video above and head to RootzWiki for downloads and instructions.

White Samsung Galaxy Nexus sighted in the UK

Android Central
Out of the blue today, we're seeing reports of two major British online retailers listing a white (GSM, 16GB) Samsung Galaxy Nexus for launch in just over a month. MobileFun and Clove both show the device with a £500-ish (~$775) price tag, and Clove says it's expecting stock from the week commencing Feb. 6. MobileFun also has a handy promotional shot of the phone, showing that the white Galaxy Nexus not only exists, but looks like a white Galaxy Nexus.
There's no word yet on when (or even if) Verizon will offer a CDMA/LTE version in white, but the good news for importers is that the white GSM version should be a pentaband model, just like the original. If you've yet to pick up a Galaxy Nexus, let us know in the comments if the prospect of owning a shinier version in a different color could push you over the edge.

Verizon confirms Galaxy Nexus "signal strength issues"

Well, there's good news and bad. Per usual, we'll kick it off with the latter. The LTEified version of the Galaxy Nexus has signal problems. Or, more specifically, a "signal strength issue." According to Verizon Wireless' Support account on Twitter, the issue is currently being investigated, and while there's no ETA at the moment, a software update is "being developed" to remedy it. We haven't seen a flood of gripes regarding the call quality (or lack thereof) with this particular handset, but it's not exactly uncommon for carriers to work on these types of things soon after a hero device hits the masses. Naturally, we'll keep you abreast of any release details.

No Swype keyboard on Android 4.0 ICS for now

Swype has announced that due to the way Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich reports screen resolution, its tracing keyboard is not currently compatible with the new operating system. That means that new Google Galaxy Nexus owners will have to make do with the standard Ice Cream Sandwich virtual keyboard (which, to be honest, is very good), or another third-party option for now. Swype says that it is hard at work making its keyboard compatible with Ice Cream Sandwich, so we wouldn't expect users to have to wait too long for an updated version.

Verizon Galaxy Nexus updated to 4.0.2

Verizon Galaxy Nexus updated to 4.0.2 more bugs squashed ahead of release?

The news on Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus is coming hot and heavy today – right on the heels of Verizon’s statement that the Galaxy Nexus is “still on track to be released this year” and the discovery of the official Verizon online simulator for the new Nexus, word comes that Verizon is pushing out an OTA update, bringing the Verizon version of Ice Cream Sandwich to 4.0.2.

According to tipsters this is a bug-squashing update, so perhaps this is what Verizon was waiting for before releasing the phone. Of course some think that the delays have had nothing to do with bugs, but instead Verizon’s ongoing negotiations with Google over Google Wallet.
