Google Releases Moto G Google Play Edition

Moto-G-GPE

Google has announced the release of the Moto G Google Play Edition starting at $179 for the 8GB model and $199 for the 16GB model. There isn’t much of a difference between the Google Play Edition and the regular unlocked GSM model of the Moto G selling through other retailers. The Moto G is already just about stock Android to begin with, and the pricing is around the same you’ll find through third-party retailers. With the Google Play Edition Moto G you’ll be guaranteed completely stock Android and updates when other Google Play Edition devices receive them. The Moto G is available now through the Google Play website for customers in the US and will run on AT&T, T-Mobile, and their respectful MVNO pre-paid services (i.e. MetroPCS, Aio, and GoSmart).

Verizon Moto G Leaked, Rumored At $100 Off Contract

13 - 1

Shared by Google+ user “Josue Joseph“, the above image shows the Moto G in Verizon retail packaging. The blister packaging reveals that the device will be sold with no annual contract and also touts that users will get unlimited talk and text and a choice of one of Verizon’s data plans.

There’s no word on when the device will be released to the public from Verizon. Josue notes in the comments of his post that it “looks like” the device will be sold for just $100 off-contract. That is an amazing value for a phone that was already seen as a value at $179.

Nestle Outs October Android KitKat Launch

Nestle Germany's Facebook account for Kit Kat has been taking full advantage of the increased traffic this Android partnership is getting it, and has been posting all sorts of teasers for the upcoming platform release. Of course, that’s going to attract as many smartphone fans as candy fans, and the company’s been fielding comments from both.

In response to a query about the software release, Nestle posts through this Kit Kat account that "Android 4.4 KitKat will be available in October".

Android 4.4 To Be Named "KitKat"

BTQIADeCUAAJ3WN.jpg-large

Google’s SVP of Android, Sundar Pichai just announced over 1 billion Android activation's and the name of the next Android operating system on Twitter. Android 4.4 will be named after the NestlĂ© KitKat bar. A giant “chocolate” Android statue has also appeared alongside the previous Android mascots on Google’s campus.

As far as the changes in Android 4.4, Google says they are trying to “make an amazing Android experience available for everybody,” but so far there’s no indication of what that actually means.

To celebrate, Nestle and Google have teamed up to giveaway a Nexus 7 and Google Play Store credits in specially-marked Kit Kat bars.
