Google Gemini Now Works Across Multiple Apps

Google’s AI assistant Gemini is now able to carry out tasks across multiple apps in a single interaction, in an update announced today alongside the launch of Samsung’s new Galaxy S25 series. Those phones are also Samsung’s first to feature Gemini as the default on-device assistant, relegating Bixby to the app drawer. Those changes are part of a raft of other updates from Google including improvements to the AI-powered Circle to Search.
With the recent update, Gemini is able to carry out more complex multimodal tasks. You might ask it to find a dog-friendly Italian restaurant and send it to your friend, or pull up your NFL team’s upcoming games and add them to your calendar, all in a single prompt.
Gemini is the most widely available AI assistant supported in 45 languages, in more than 200 countries and territories, and we’re continuing to add more.
It’s available on hundreds of phone models from dozens of device makers, and has been tailored for the many form factors of Android from phones to foldables. On Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6, you can bring Gemini into a multi-window, split-screen experience for multitasking. And on the Motorola Razr+, you can bring up Gemini directly from the external display to quickly summarize your recent emails without ever having to open your phone. Beyond the latest flagship devices, Gemini is already supported on existing devices, which means your Android phone keeps getting better over time.

Byte, Is The New Vine

Image result for byte vine

The Byte app is now available to everyone, both iOS and Android. Byte is a social network based on short video clips, with comment features similar to Instagram, and a "rebyte" feature similar to retweets on Twitter.

Byte was founded by Dom Hofmann one of the original creators of Vine and is similar to Vine in many ways. (Vine was purchased by Twitter, and shut down 2016.) The Byte app includes a search/explore section that lets you explore content by category, such as animation, pets, fitness, music, comedy, travel, and experimental, as well as latest and most popular content.

The camera section lets you string together multiple short clips at once, recorded from either the front or back camera, and/or include sections of previously-recorded video. An onion-skinning feature helps you visually align the start of a new clip with the last frame of the last clip.

Apple pushes updates to iOS, watchOS, tvOS, and macOS. Bring with it AirPlay 2, stereo pairing for HomePod, Messages in iCloud, and more.

Below is a rundown of what's new in iOS 11.4.

AirPlay 2
Originally announced at WWDC 2017 AirPlay 2 is Apple's latest update for streaming audio and video from an iOS device or Mac to compatible receivers. AirPlay 2 allows for play audio through multiple AirPlay 2 speakers at once.

Apple's HomePod speaker will gain support for AirPlay 2 and multi-room audio with iOS 11.4. Other speaker makers including Bose, Bowers & Wilkins, and Libratone will be offering AirPlay 2 compatible speakers and releasing software updates to bring the technology to compatible older products.

Another feature originally announced back at WWDC 2017, Message in iCloud securely stores your  iMessages or standard SMS texts in iCloud, preserving and syncing your Messages history between your iOS and macOS devices.

In addition to keeping everything in sync Messages in iCloud has a couple of other benefits. First, you only have to delete a message thread once, no more deleting on every individual device you have. Also, when setting up a new device, all of your messages will be there for you whether or not you want to restore from a backup.

iOS 11.4 adds new HomePod specific improvements.

Also available with iOS 11.4 is the ability to link two HomePods as a stereo pair. This will allow an even larger soundscape for your audio as well as more immersive audio for pairing your HomePod with your Apple TV.

You can now create and interact with calendar events using Siri on your HomePod as well.

Other updates
Teachers can now assign reading activities to their students in iBooks using the Schoolwork app
Fixes for CarPlay audio distortion
Fixes for problems encountered when trying to access files in Google Drive, Docs, and Gmail in Safari.

Android Wear OS Could Have A New Name And Logo, Wear OS...

Old Android Wear OS logo at left, new Wear OS logo on the right
A Reddit user took to Reddit, finding a new name and logo for the Android Wear OS while setting up his new smartwatch. The owner of the timepiece did not specify which particular model he purchased.

Instead of using the Android Wear name, the pairing notification referenced "Wear OS" and featured a new logo. Replacing the old image that used a square and two rectangles to portray a smartwatch on a two-toned blue background, the new logo features a blue and yellow rounded search bar combined with some of the Google Assistant dots. Together, it forms the letter "W" for Wear OS.

While Google has not officially make the change, we could see an announcement made at Google I/O 2018.

Say Hello To Google Allo

Google has started rolling out Google Allo, a new smart messaging app for Android and iOS that helps you say more and do more right in your chats. Google Allo can help you make plans, find information, and express yourself more easily in chat and the more you use it, the more it improves over time.

Respond quickly with Smart Reply
Google Allo makes it easier for you to respond quickly and keep the conversation going, even when you’re on the go. With Smart Reply, you can respond to messages with just a tap, so you can send a quick “yup” in response to a friend asking “Are you on your way?” Smart Reply will also suggest responses for photos. If your friend sends you a photo of their pet, you might see Smart Reply suggestions like “aww cute!” And whether you’re a “haha” or “😂” kind of person, Smart Reply will improve over time and adjust to your style.

Express yourself with photos, emojis and stickers
Chat is more than just text, so we’ve created a rich canvas for you to express yourself in Google Allo. You can make emojis and text larger or smaller in size by simply dragging the “send” button up or down. Make photos your own by scribbling on them before you send. And we’ve worked with independent artists and studios around the world to create more than 25 custom sticker packs, because sometimes a “sloth riding a pizza” says it all.

Meet your personal Google Assistant
In Google Allo you’ll also be introduced to a preview edition of the Google Assistant. With your Assistant in Allo, you can have a conversation with Google — ask it questions and let it help you get things done directly in your chats. You no longer need to leave a conversation with friends just to grab an address, share your favorite YouTube video, or pick a dinner spot. Just type @google to bring your Assistant into any group chat. And of course, you can also chat one-one-one with your Assistant in Allo.

Chat in Incognito mode
We take privacy and security seriously in Google Allo. All chats in Google Allo are encrypted using industry standard technologies like Transport Layer Security (TLS). But we went a step beyond this and we created a mode within Google Allo called Incognito (h/t Chrome). When you chat in Incognito mode, messages have end-to-end encryption and additional privacy features like discreet notifications and message expiration.

We can’t wait for you to say hello to Google Allo! Google is rolling out Google Allo for Android and iOS, the app is available for download by following the source links below.
